Reflecting Change of content DB in DPM

$

We recently have come across with an issue of DPM that we replaced a sharepoint content database of one webapplication with new content database in our sharepoint 2010 environment and even after changing the content DB, we have been noticing errors with old database name, instead of new content database in DPM like "Last one recovery points not created" . Can you please suggest me how to reflect/refresh the change of content data base in DPM?

Thanks .

Hello,

I keep seeing this error on my DPM 2007 server VErsion: 2.0.8868.0 (installed on Server 2008 standard x64 SP2). SharePoint 2007 SP2 (Installed on Server 2003 x32 SP2 standard edition)

Affected area: Sharepoint Farm\sql03\SharePoint_Config
Occurred since: 15/04/2013 6:05:28 PM
Description: DPM failed to obtain catalog information as part of the backup for SharePoint Farm Sharepoint Farm\sql03\SharePoint_Config on sps02.momentumhealthware.local. Your recovery point is valid, but you will be unable to perform item-level recoveries using this recovery point. (ID 3103)
Recommended action: 1) If you do not expect to be performing item-level restores using this recovery point, then dismiss this alert; otherwise, take the recommended actions in the subsequent steps.
2) If the operation failed for a short-term backup to disk, in the Protection task area, select the data source and click Create recovery point to restart the backup.
3) If the operation failed for a short-term backup to tape, in the Protection task area, select all the failed data sources that belong to the same protection group, and click Create recovery point – tape. This will ensure that the tape backups are located on the same tape.
4) Dismiss this alert immediately after starting your backup.
Resolution: DPM automatically changes this alert's status to inactive 10 days after it is issued. To dismiss the alert, click below
 Inactivate alert

Troubleshooting: Manual backup to disk completes successfully but scheduled one fails from time to time. THis time around it's failing every time the backup runs.

- I've reset all crawled contents and manually stated the crawl with no success.

- Maybe there is a site that’s corrupted and needed to be removed and re-added as per my research but im not sure how to go about doing this.

Can i request one of you geniuses to assist me on this please?

Much appreciated

DPM cannot protect this Sharepoint Farm

Hi

I’ve run into a problem with protecting SharePoint with DPM. The original Sharepoint SQL cluster was hosted on a SAN which unfortunately had crashed. We had managed to rebuild the environment on a different storage array and SharePoint is back up and running. I’m trying to protect it with DPM and I keep getting DPM cannot protect this Sharepoint Farm message box with 3 possible reasons on why.

1)Ensure that the Sharepoint VSS writer is reporting content database on the front-end web server

2)Verify that the SQL server VSS writer is enabled ad running in a healthy state on all the backend SQL server machines

3)Verify if some of the database that are part of this Sharepoint farm are already being protected by DPM.

The previous PG was deleted from DPM along with the replica.

I can create a PG with the new SQL cluster and can tick all the db’s on there without any problems, and I can select folders on the WFE and select them for protection without any issues. But when I select Sharepoint it fails with the error message.

I’ve checked the VSS writers and no error messages, and re-run the ConfigureSharepoint commands including the ResolveSqlAliases, but I’m still unable to protect Sharepoint. All Sharepoint servers have been restarted.

One this I have noticed is that when I select the Sharepoint box it shows as just ‘Sharepoint’ not Sharepoint\ServerName\Sharepoint_Config

Any ideas on steps I can take next??

DPM 2012 Sharepoint Protection - cross forest domain issues

Hi,

I've just upgraded to DPM 2012 this week and i'm trying to implement Sharepoint Protection for multiple cross-forest domain Front-Ends. I've done the following, without any luck. When i go to create a new protection group, sharepoint farm protection isnt available as one of the options.

- insured DPM agent is install on all servers in environment

- logged in as farm admin account and ran command: configuresharepoint.exe -enablesharepointprotection. It comes back as operation completed successfully.

- insured VSS writer is only running on one Front End

- ran sysadm -o unregisterwsswriter and registerwsswriter and both come back successful.

I've tried this on multiple environments with the same results. Not sure where to go from now. Anyone experience this before? Is it an issue with the front ends being on a seperate domain from the DPM server?

No Sharepoint Server 2007 Installation was detected on the local machine

I have an environment with DPM 2012 sp1 and I am trying to enable search protection for Sharepoint 2013 w\SQL2012 backend.

When I try to enable protection of Sharepoint search I get the error below:

---

C:\Windows\system32>cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protect
n

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\bin>Con
xe -EnableSPSearchProtection
No Sharepoint Server 2007 Installation was detected on the local machine.

---

Does this feature need to be enabled for SP/OWA 2013?  When I configure the protection group in DPM I only see the farm listed, there are no search components listed?

For documentation all I can find is the following:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758094.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh757909.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758126.aspx

Which seems to indicate that I do need to enable search protection?

Thanks in advance,

K

Protecting two Sharepoint farms.

Hi.

I have two sharepoint farms i am trying to protect.

Protection set up for first farm as described her: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd441708.aspx

After setup i am able to choose the sharepoint farm in the PG, and backup works fine.

Then setting up protection for second farm, same way as first farm.

When modifying PG, not possible to choose second farm (on the WFE server). No icon for Sharepoint  shown on WFE server.

Error messages recived indicates that dpm see these two farms as one farm....

If i modify the PG, removing the first farm, i am able to choose second farm. Not possible to protect two sharepoint farms on same dmp server

Temporary i had two dpm servers, and i proteced the sharepoint farms on two different dpm servers. That worked fine.

So i guess i have done most of the config right.

But two dpm servers was only temporay, i am back to one now.

My two sharepoint farms are not using the same server(s) for any function.

Some databases on the farms have the same name, could that be a problem?

So the question is, how to protect two sharepoint farms from one dpm server?

My system is: DPM2010, sharepoint 2010, windows server 2008.

DPM 2012 SP1 & SharePoint 2013 item level backup

I'm running DPM 2012 SP1 with the latest updates. I backup two separate SharePoint farms: a 2010 farm and a new 2013 far.
On the 2010 farm I have always been able to drill down to the file level when going in the recovery tab of DPM, but on the 2013 farm I cannot drill down from the top content DBs.

I deployed the agent on both 2013 FE and SQL servers and on the FE I ran the ConfigureSharePoint CMDLET with the switch -EnableSharePointProtection without problems. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Tahnks.

I have DPM 2012 SP1 Rollup2 and I wanted to recover Sharepoint 2013 Site (Single Sharepoint Server with SQL 2012 SP1 Database).

I get this error:

C\spAdmin user is sysadmin on Sharepoint SQL Database.....

I don't know what is wrong?

Thanks for help in advance!

Error backing up Sharepoint 2010 using DPM 2012, VSS in a bad state

$

I can't get DPM 2012 to backup our Sharepoint 2010 databases properly. When trying to create a new recovery point, I get:

The VSS application writer or the VSS provider is in a bad state. Either it was already in a bad state or it entered a bad state during the current operation. (ID 30111 Details: VssError:The writer experienced a non-transient error.  If the backup process is retried,
the error is likely to reoccur.
 (0x800423F4))

Running "vssadmin list writers" on the sql server returns:

...

Writer name: 'SqlServerWriter'
   Writer Id: {a65faa63-5ea8-4ebc-9dbd-a0c4db26912a}
   Writer Instance Id: {bc7df3df-24b4-4432-99fb-8d316c02f3b7}
   State: [11] Failed
   Last error: Non-retryable error

...

This error perists even after a restart. Before manually trying to create a recovery point, DPM seems to occasionally be able to take partial backups. These backups can consist of one or more of: mysite database, the main intranet-content database, the Config database or the AdminContentDB. Each of these recovery points have a warning message:

"Some of the databases were not available when the selected recovery point was created. For farm recovery ensure that Config and AdminContent databases are available in the recovery point"

We are using a non-clustered setup of:

Sharepoint 2010 Std (14.0.6029.1000)

SQL Server 2008 Std (10.0.5826)

DPM 2012 SP1 (4.1.3333.0)

Any ideas what could be causing this error?

Hi, I have DPM 2012 SP1 setup to backup SharePoint 2013.

Everything is green and looks good.

However, when I go to drill down into the item level recovery I can;t go beyond content databases.  Also, when I use the SharePoint Search Recovery Point, it never returns anything.

Does anyone know how I can get this fixed?

Thanks

I am having trouble With single item recovery on the wss_content_db on my SharePoint 2013 server

My Mysite_db this is working on.

Event log says:

Backup job for datasource: server\SHAREPOINT\SharePoint_Config on production server: server.domain completed succcessfully.

Recovery point created at: 7/17/2013 6:28:13 PM.

Backup Type: tape backup.

Single content recovery was working on my old DPM backupserver.

SharePoint ILR - WSS3.0

I have been trying to recover a single file from a WSS3.0 of SharePoint with DPM 2012 SP1 UR3 installed which returns the following error:

DPM Agent on the SharePoint front-end Web server is not configured appropriately. DPM was unable to invoke WssCmdletWrapper DCOM component successfully. (ID 32019 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))

with the following remedy:
Recommended action: 1) If your farm administrator password has expired, please run "ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection" on the front-end web server. This will reset the WssCmdletWrapper and update its logon credentials.
 2) If you are protecting SharePoint Search, then run "ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSPSearchProtection" as well on the front-end web server.

The setup is quite basic:

2003 server with WSS3.0 with the SQL on a separate 2008 R2 server with SQL 2008 R2

The Farm administrator password has not been changed, I have gone through this more then once... My domain account is a farm admin but running the above commands would result in Access Denied, once I logged with "the Farm Admin" account on the Web server and run it would work?

one other thing I found strange when you kick of the wizard to recover the item the first option is to browse for the WebFront-end... the only server available is the SQL server & not the WebFront-End?

SharePoint backup frequency?

$

Does DPM 2012 support 15 minute incremental backups of SharePoint when backing up as a SP farm or only Express Full? When creating the protection group there is only the option for Express Full. The SharePoint SQL DB recovery models are set to FULL. Would expect it to do 15 minute incremental as this is what we can do with SQL.

Many thanks,

Marcus

SharePoint 2013 Farm : DPM DR Solution Using NLB

$

We have a 3 Tier SharePoint 2013 farm, which has 2 WFE servers (Network Load Balanced). When creating a protection group for the Farm in DPM, it seems you can only set it up through one WFE server agent. So currently the Farm is being backed up through WFE-01. However what happens if WFE-01 is offline, like it was for us all weekend, all back-ups fail.

Is it possible to set the protection group to flip over to WFE-02 for this scenario, basically DPM using the NLB cluster?

Cheers,

Andrew
