DPM 2012 SP1 protecting Sharepoint 2013 on SQL2012 Always On Availability Group

Hi, I'm trying to protect a Sharepoint 2013 farm with the databases on SQL 2012 AlwaysON AG on DPM 2012 SP1. I've read that 2 months ago was not supported but I wanted to know if there is any update on this issue. I keep receiving ID 32008 issue when I try to add the farm to a new Protection Group. I tried many workarounds and shortcuts to try to figure some alternative but there is none.

Similar posts or information: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0c047737-4733-4ad5-a24d-3e6e6ff42f70/dpm-2012-sp1-and-sharepoint-2013-on-a-sql-2012-alwayson-ag?forum=dpmsharepointbackup

Thanks for any help on this matter.

SharePoint backup frequency?

Does DPM 2012 support 15 minute incremental backups of SharePoint when backing up as a SP farm or only Express Full? When creating the protection group there is only the option for Express Full. The SharePoint SQL DB recovery models are set to FULL. Would expect it to do 15 minute incremental as this is what we can do with SQL.

Many thanks,

Marcus

Change/replace WFE for SharePoint Protection

Hi,

I am using SCDPM 2012 to backup SharePoint 2010. That is working fine for several years now. The problem is that the WFE Server we used crashed. As we had several for SharePoint itself this is not an issue. But I am not able to restore any SharePoint data anymore. Regardless whether I am choosing "restore to original" or "restore to alternate" location DPM always want's to use the crashed WFE Server. I think I understand the reason for that but the situation is: I cannot restore any data.

Is there any way to replace the WFE for another one which still exists within DPM for the existing backed up data?

Unfortunately I cannot re-create a WFE with this name, so this is not an option.

Thanks.

Unable to browse SharePoint site or item in DPM 2012R2

I'm having (or am confused) an issue re SharePoint 2013 protection in DPM2012R2.

When expanding the Protected SharePoint Data and a content database, I am unable to go into the protected Content databases to see a site or file within there.

I double click the Content DB and it just jumps to the top item in the list again and doesn't expand.

Is there something missing from SP2013 and DPM 2012R2 integration?

DPM 2012 SP0, MOSS 2010 SP1, Clustered SQL 2008 R2 SP1, Windows 2008 R2 SP1

I have a farm with 3 front ends and clustered SQL back end. I have successfully setup DPM to backup our test farm that should be identical except for hostnames. When I moved to our production farm and attemtped to add protection for sharepoint, I keep getting error 966. (DPM could not connect to SQL server instance OLDSQLSERVER\INSTANCE on the protected computer CLUSTERHOST01). The odd thing is that this instance no longer exists and was never used in the SP2010 farm. It is the instance name that held our previous SP2007 farm. The upgrade was done via database attach method, so there is no reason the new farm should even know about the old instance name.

I have verified that all SQL aliases on all WFEs are correct. I cannot find reference to the incorrect name in central admin or with get-spdatabase. In all cases the SQL alias is what is listed for SQL server. I also checked both DPMRACurr.errlog and WssCmdletsWrapperCurr.errlog and could not find reference to the incorrect name. In all cases that I saw a database server listed it was either the Alias or the correct server that the alias points to.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go looking for the location DPM is getting the old server info from?

Thank you for any suggestions or consideration of this matter.

Joe M.

Hi,

I have a strange problem here, which I cannot understand.

I have Sharepoint 2013, 3 servers one app and two wfe. I have configured wfe1 with ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection and ConfigureSharepoint.exe -resolvesAllSQLAliases, I have two aliases.

The db are on two SQL servers, all but one are on SQL 2008 r2 SQL and the one is on SQL 2013 and DPM is 2012 r2.

There is no DPM backup set up  for this Sharepoint server, so I am creating a now backup. I create a Sharepoint backup using wfe1 and every thing looks normal, the backup complete normal but it only backup the DB on the SQL 2013 and nothing else, I see no errors??

Pls adv,

Hello,

I am struggling to get SP2010 Foundation ILR working on a customers DPM 2012 R2 server but cannot get it to work.It has worked but I cannot say when it stopped. Symptoms are as follows.I start a restore job using recover to original site, no recovery farm and using different folders for temp db and files. Once the restore starts I can see that it creates the temp DB but then when it´s supposed to extract the content it fails.

DPM itself throws these errors.

From the bold text above, I do not understand where exactly this user domain\sp_service cannot be found, that account is local admin on both the DPM / SP2010 Server, on the SP server this account runs the SPSearch4 service. It also has full db_owner right on all the SQL DBs.

Sharepoint 2010 Workflow Task recovery using DPM

Using OOTB workflows, two lists are created, the workflow itself and workflow tasks.

We are trying to recover workflow tasks (the workflow items are recovering fine without issues) using DPM 2012 on Sharepoint 2010. We are able to navigate to the workflow task within DPM and even execute the recovery (it says success) but there are no new items in the workflow tasks list. Even checked the recycle bin and there are no items.

Any thoughts? Does DPM support workflow task recovery in Sharepoint 2010?

Hello. Friends. Please help me with my issue with backing up my SharePoint foundation 2010. As backup software I use Data Protect Manager 2012 SP1.  It was all time ok, but last week I have got an error, that my replica isn’t consistent. I tried to launch a consistency check, but it also leads to error. In verbose log on protected server I see next several warnings:

Cannot protect SharePoint farm that uses SQL server IP address instead of hostname?

Hello, I am trying to configure DPM 2012 R2 protection for a SharePoint 2013 farm. The DPM agent was installed on the WFE and SQL server and they are reporting a "OK" status from the DPM console. ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection was also ran on the WFE. When I try to set up my protection group and expand the WFE server I get the following error:

"DPM cannot protect some of your datasources until you install agents on the following servers : 10.1.1.12. (ID: 956)"

That IP address is the SharePoint SQL server IP address. For whatever reason the person who installed this SharePoint farm configured it with the IP address of the SQL server instead of a DNS name.

I know the DPM agent is working properly on both servers because I can enumerate their volumes and databases. I'm certain this error is due to SharePoint using an IP address for the SQL server instead of a DNS name or alias. Is there a workaround for this?

 More information
Recommended action: 1) If your farm administrator password has expired, please run "ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection" on the front-end web server. This will reset the WssCmdletWrapper and update its logon credentials.
 2) If you are protecting SharePoint Search, then run "ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSPSearchProtection" as well on the front-end web server.

On the Jobs tab in the Monitoring tasks area, group jobs by type to view details of the recovery jobs.
 Retry the recovery job...

Unable to run DPM client ConfigureSharepoint.exe on SP2013 FrontEnd server

I'm trying to setup one of our 2013 front-ends to backup to DPM, the server OS is Windows 2008 R2 SP1.

When running ConfigureSharepoint.exe -EnableSharepointProtection I get the message 'No Sharepoint Installation was detected on the local machine'.

I'm running this as an elevated user on the front end server and I'm logged onto the server as the Farm admin account. The server was rebooted after the DPM 2012 agent was pushed.

I have unregistered the wsswriter using stsadm -o unregisterwsswriter and tried again but still no joy running the ConfigureSharepoint.exe for the DPM agent (did this based on another post I'd found).

After successfully registering wsswriter as the farm admin still no joy.

Has anyone had this issue before and be able to give a bit of advice.
